Hello residents!
We received several e-mails from residents about the snow plowing and icy roads in our subdivision following the most recent winter storm. When we receive feedback from residents about the snow removal, we pass it along to Richards Lawn Services, the company we have contracted for snowplowing. The company has generally been very responsive to residents’ feedback. In response to all the feedback, Richards sent a reply to the Board which you can read here.
Salting the roads has not been included in past snow removal contracts, nor was it included in the current contract. This is to prevent further deterioration of the roads, and also due to the added cost — the inclusion of salting would likely have exceeded the annual budget for snow removal by a couple thousand dollars.
The Board has received an updated cost estimate for road salting from Richards Lawn Services, and we have approved reallocating funds to add a limited number of road salt applications to our current snow removal contract. If additional salt applications are needed later, the Board will revisit whether it is feasible with our current budget.
In the meantime, we encourage residents to use their judgment and exercise caution when the roads are icy. Additionally, the Road Commission for Oakland County will plow and salt our subdivision’s roads, but residential roads are low on their list of priorities — often they will not come to our subdivision until days after a snowfall. However, residents can call 877-858-4804 to report road conditions and request service from the RCOC. A high volume of calls from our subdivision could encourage the RCOC to move us up on their list.
Please be safe!
