The Board is asking for your input on an informal survey. This is NOT a binding vote to redo the roads at this time. Rather, the goal is to gauge interest in our community and determine whether a formal petition to repave the roads would have a reasonable chance of success.
The last time assessments were done, the cost of repaving the roads was in the range of $10,000 – $12,000 per household. Given cost increases in the roughly 10 years since these assessments, it seems likely the cost of repaving the roads today could be significantly higher. It is hard to predict the exact amount, but it is almost certainly between $12,000 and $24,000 per household. Paid over 10 years, this equates to between $100 and $200 per month (assuming any interest is already included in the total amount). Note: this money is not paid to the Franklin Valley Association; it is paid to a governmental agency.
The formal petition process that is required for a road repaving project is very time-consuming. Door-to-door canvassing on every street is required to obtain the needed number of signatures in support of the petition. The Board members, who are all volunteers and are already spending time on other tasks on behalf of the Association, do not have the capacity to undertake this process. Road repaving cannot happen without strong support from many new volunteers in our subdivision. If you are willing to volunteer your time, please indicate this on the survey.

The Board will be scheduling a public information session with a representative from West Bloomfield Township and/or the Road Commission for Oakland County to provide more details about the road repaving process.
